The Movie Industry is Blogging?
29 July 2008, 00:41
Yesterday at night I was having a hard time sleeping so I got up and browsed around.
I’ve found out about Terminator 4 going out next summer and wanted more information on it (being a terminator fan) so I checked its wikipedia entry.
I was amazed at how much information there was in this page for a movie going out in 2009. The heavy use of external references also impressed me. When following one of the links, I realized that the director himself is blogging about the movie!
Wow!
I never thought producers or distributors would allow directors to blog about the movie they are working on. Well, I was wrong, it is even hosted under a Warner Bros. domain name!
Go check out the blog here: Terminator Salvation
I wondered if this was a common practice or something new going on and a quick (and bad) google search revealed at least a few other director’s blogs.
Well I think its a good thing especially for franchise with a very demanding fan base (Terminator!). It keeps communication going directly from the creators to [potential] audience, builds hype but still avoid unnecessary rumours from spreading.
Well, anyway, it worked on me. When I’ve read that the next Terminator was in the works, I was afraid that they would screw it. Now that I’m following the blog, I feel reassured.
